Sri. C. M. Nagaraj was born on March 09, 1942 in a small village Chandanahalli of Kunigal Taluk in Tumkur District. He grew up with an interest in sports and became a physical education teacher in a school in Bengaluru. Sensing the importance of physical fitness in better learning and academic resilience, he founded a school in 1968, at the age of 26, that offers balance between sports and academics. Based on the success of his first school in terms of reach and impact, he established a few more educational institutions. He strongly believed that Discipline, Dedication, and Determination (3Ds) form a powerful mindset for achieving goals, acting as the bridge between aspirations and reality, with discipline providing structure, dedication ensuring focus, and determination fuelling perseverance through challenges.

He left us on August 18, 2008 at the age of 66 after contributing significantly for the betterment of the community and society.

He believed that what was created will survive him as well as serve future generations in terms of (a) fostering economic growth, (b) reducing poverty, (c) promoting social equality, (d) improving overall well-being of the society and (e) transforming the nation as a whole.

To celebrate his memory and make his legacy immortal, CMN Institute of Technology (CMNIT) has been established.

Thirupathi Education Society was registered as per the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960 (under 1960 Rule-17) at Bangalore on August 26, 1992. The objective of the society has been to develop well-rounded, responsible citizens with critical thinking, strong ethics, and practical skills.

It has been running THE GREAT EASTERN INTERNATIONAL PUBLIC SCHOOL since 2014, THE GREAT EASTERN PU COLLEGE (powered by Taproot) since 2021, and CMN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY since 2026.

Smt. Chitrakala Nagaraj is the President of the Society and encourages maintaining a balance between physical fitness and academics across all its educational institutions.

Leadership

Chairman – Shri C. N. Shashikiran is serving as the Secretary for various institutions and the Chairman of the Governing Council of CMN Institute of Technology (CMNIT). He works alongside Chairperson Smt. Chitrakala Nagaraj, continuing the legacy of the founder Late Sri C. M. Nagaraj, with a strong focus on integrating modern technology with traditional education for holistic student development.

He envisions educational institutions as dynamic environments that shape students’ lives by fostering a love for learning and instilling strong values. He believes that high academic scores alone are not sufficient and that a variety of skills and personal qualities are necessary to thrive in complex professional and social environments. He emphasizes open communication among all stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement and quality across all areas. His dedication to social reform, coupled with his belief in the mantra “work is worship”, reflects a deep commitment to both education and societal development.

Principal – Dr. Kumar K is currently the Principal of CMNIT and brings over 20 years of rich academic and industry experience. He obtained his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from BIT, Bengaluru (1997), M.E. in Machine Design from UVCE (2001), and a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from VTU, Belagavi (2025).

His professional experience includes serving as Professor and Principal at VKIT (2014–2020); Manager, PIES A350 Airbus, Infosys, Bengaluru (2011–2014); Verification Engineer at German Lloyds, Germany/Bengaluru (2009–2011); Deputy Manager – Research and Development at Triveni Engineering and Industries Ltd., Bengaluru (2007–2009); Lecturer in the Mechanical Engineering Department at BMSIT, Bengaluru (2003–2007); Lecturer at Government College of Engineering, Ramanagaram (2002–2003); and Project Assistant in the Aerospace Engineering Department at IISc, Bengaluru (1998–1999).

Governing Council acts as the supreme body of the institution, responsible for strategic vision, financial oversight, and policy-making. It bridges management and stakeholders to ensure academic quality and institutional growth by setting long-term goals, approving budgets, appointing leadership, and ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies such as AICTE and UGC.

The Governing Council oversees admissions, faculty recruitment, infrastructure development, research initiatives, and student welfare, providing high-level control and accountability for the college’s overall direction and long-term success.
